Since Sox and Pinstripes debuted in 2007, we have chronicled the Red Sox and Yankees year-round. And what an exciting period it has been - for Red Sox and Yankees fans alike. Due to an unforeseen snafu that led our domain name to expire and get claimed by someone else, who is holding it hostage for thousands of dollars, we put the site on hold this season, until now. Welcome back to Sox and Pinstripes!
We are in the midst of some design changes, and there will be a new URL in addition to www.soxandpinstripes.net that will point to this site and enhance our presence in the search engines. Yet, rather than wait for that to be finished, we have decided to return in time for the dog days of summer.
The Yankees appear to have a comfortable lead in the American League East. And while the Red Sox are looking up at the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, their chances for a wild card berth or a division title remain solid. After all, due to a multitude of injuries, half of their starting lineup has featured Triple-A players and reserves, and missing guys like Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz and Daisuke Matsuzaka for long stretches has made it a daunting challenge for the rotation. Yet the Sox lead the American League in runs scored with a patchwork lineup and will welcome back Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez and Jacoby Ellsbury in the coming weeks.
This season has been one of frustration for Red Sox fans. Lots of blown leads and one-run losses. Yet the fact the Sox are 55-43 and still in contention for the division and the wild card speaks volumes for the players who have stepped up and the managing job of Terry Francona. No doubt he deserves AL Manager of the Year honors if this team reaches the playoffs.
So sit back, comment away and spread the word about the return of Sox and Pinstripes. We look forward to chronicling the rivalry and the farm systems, and increasing our traffic by expanding our presence on Facebook and Twitter, too.
Red Sox-Yankees. It's still the greatest rivalry in sports, and writing about it is a rush that keeps us fueled whether it is July or December.
